My Janicki Family

Purpose:

I created this website to share information about my Dad's Janicki family.

Introduction

Over 20 years ago, I got interested in learning more about my Dad's family tree, both in the United States, and, if possible, back in Poland.

Internet searches back then were not as robust as today; however,  I found a website where you could order photocopies of  obituaries from Dziennik Chicagoski, a Polish  newspaper published from 1890 to 1971.  Using the names of siblings of my grandfather John Janicki, I obtained some of their obituaries, and translated each obituary from Polish to English. (see the Obituaries page).

Years ago, my Aunt Steph sent me a sheet that lists my great-grandfather Andrew Janicki's parents, his wife, and their children - all aunts and uncles of my Dad.  This one document has been the greatest help to me in researching  and building the Janicki family tree.   In addition, she mailed me vital records for family members.  (see the Vital Records and Miscellaneous pages).

In the meantime, I downloaded Personal Ancestral File (PAF), which was a genealogy management software product formerly provided free of charge by FamilySearch.  Over time, I gathered more data about persons in my family tree; especially, those who lived in the United States, and added it to my family tree.   However, I had a hard time finding anything about persons in Poland.  There were few sources available at the FamilySearch website.  In addition, it is difficult to read/translate from Polish to English.

Note: I have since migrated/merged my local family tree into the  FamilySearch Family Tree website (familysearch.org).    For more information on how to access this website, go to my on familysearch.org  page.
